Fairbanks is located in the Interior region of Alaska. It is the largest city in the interior and second largest in the state behind Anchorage. It is the northernmost Metropolitan Statistical Area in the United States.
Fairbanks has the most extreme and variable weather in the world. The long dark winters last from late September to mid-April and may reach negative 65 degrees. During these months you are likely to see the aurora borealis “northern lights.” The summers are very warm though, reaching into the mid 80s.
