Anchorage
Anchorage, Alaska holds nearly 50 percent the population of the entire state. It has two military installations, Fort Richardson, a U.S. Army Post and Elmendorf Air Force Base. In 2003, Alaska Command (ALCOM) reported more than 25,000 military personnel and family stationed here. The municipality of Anchorage stretches 80 miles, from Portage to the south and Eklutna to the north. It includes the communities of Girdwood, Eagle River and Chugiak. Anchorage is surrounded by the Chugach Mountains to the east and Cook Inlet to the west. It has been voted “All-American City” four times. The average temperature is 20 degrees in January and 65 degrees in July. Record high is 84 degrees and record low is negative 20 degrees.

Eagle River, Alaska is part of the Municipality of Anchorage and is situated on Eagle River, for which it is named. If it was not part of the Municipality it would be classified as one of the five largest cities in Alaska.  Eagle River is a shopping hub between Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) Valley communities of Wasilla and Palmer. Eagle River Nature Center, located within Chugach State Park, offers a variety of educational outdoor activites.
